The Divina Pastora Chair for Adapted Sports of the Universitat de València brought goalball closer to the students of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences of the UV on 8 and 15 November.

Mónica Merenciano, goalball technician at the UV (bronze-medallist judoka at the Beijing, Athens and London Paralympics) and member of the Divina Pastora Chair for Adapted Sports UV made the characteristics of this sport modality known to students, aiming to give them a fresh vision for them to use in their future professional performance.
Goalball is the only sport specifically created for blind or visually impaired people, in which participate two teams with three players each. It is primarily based on the audition sense to detect the trajectory of the ball along the game (it has bells on the inside) and requires, additionally, a great spatial capacity to know where you are supposed to be to be able to catch or throw the ball. Additionally, since last year, this inclusive modality is one of the promotion sports of the Regional University Sports Championship.

With this activity, the Chair keeps adding training actions inside the programme “The Chair of Centres”, with the aim of promoting and encourage the study of adapted sports and improve the quality of teaching in the Valencian education system.
