The Christmas concerts of the UV music groups have arrived

The music groups of the Universitat de València prepare an intense music programme on the occasion of the Christmas holidays in several cities and university facilities. Following the successful opening ceremony at the Palau de la Música on Tuesday 11th December with the performance of the UV Philharmonic Orchestra and the Choral School of La Nau, there will be 7 additional Christmas concerts played by different UV music groups.

Apart of the concert at the Palau de la Música, the Orchestra will play the traditional Christmas Concert of the International Centre of Gandia. It will be conducted by Beatriz Fernández. The pianist Jorge Tabarés will re-play part of the repertoire of the Opening Course Concert on 20th December at the Serrano de Gandia Theatre at 7:30 p.m., which had been postponed due to the heavy rains. Particularly, he will play Eduard Grieg’s Klaverkonsert i a-moll, opus 16. A repertoire of Johann Strauss II’s polkas and waltzes will be performed following the style of the New Year's Day Concert in Vienna.

The Orchestra will play its last Christmas concert on 21st December at 1 p.m. in Charles Darwin Room at Burjassot-Paterna Campus with this Viennese repertoire.

To follow with the concerts of this time of the year, the Orfeó Universitari de València will perform three concerts and will be in charge of closing the cycle of Christmas concerts of the Universitat de València with the concert on 23rd December in the Palau de la Música at 7.30 p.m. Previously, on Sunday 16th, the Orfeó will give a concert at the Auditorium in Algimia d’Alfara at 6 p.m. The Orfeó will also be at the Sant Pere Apóstol Church in Moixent on 22nd December at 6 p.m.

The Orfeó, directed by Francesc Valldecabres, will include in its repertory Chichester Psalms, piece for mixed choir written in 1965 by the American composer Leonard Bernstein from the Book of Psalms of the Hebrew Bible, as well as a wide selection of Christmas carols by Valencian composers.

Kids from the Mistral, Garbí, and Tramuntana of the Choral School of the Nau choirs will take part in the Christmas concerts of the University musical groups with a concert in the hall of the Principal Peset Hall of Residence on Monday 19th at 7 p.m. On this occasion, its director Mònica Perales has prepared a repertoire including carols that are popular and traditional around the world.
Mònica Perales is also in charge of the Choral Society of La Nau Gran in the concert that will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Nau on 20th December at 12.30 p.m. with a repertoire of Christmas and religious music from the fifteenth century to the present day.

All the concerts of the university groups are free (limited capacity) except for the 23rd December at the Palau de la Música. Tickets for this concert can be bought ta the ticket office of the Palau de la Música and at www.palauvalencia.com. The price ranges between 6 and 12 euros.
