The CIG-UV celebrates Women’s Day with a concert by ‘A cau d’orella’ Women’s Choir

The Women’s Choir will give a free concert at the ‘Marqués de González de Quirós’ House of Culture to commemorate Women’s Day on Thursday, 7 March.

The Gandia International Centre of the Universitat de València has scheduled a concert by ‘A cau d’orella’ (In a whisper) Women’s Choir on 8 March to commemorate Women’s Day. ‘A Cau d’orella’ is a group formed entirely by womenwith extensive musical training, both vocal and instrumental. The concert will take place on Thursday, 7 March 2024 at the ‘Marqués de González de Quirós’ House of Culture. Admission is free of charge.

The programme includes pieces such asDonde Suuri Su rantas de Pop. Finland/ Matti Hyökki (1946);the Ave Maris stella, by Eva Ugalde (1973); Pater noster, by Xabier Sarasola (1960); Canción de navegar, by Pere Mateu; and Marinero en Tierra, byJ.R. Gil-Tàrrega.

The formation of 'A cau d'orella' arose as a result of the proposal of its director, Mònica Perales. The choir was presented to the public in March 2006 at the Sapiencia Chapel of the Universitat de València, with a monographic programme by the Catalan composer Josep Vila y Casañas. Since then, the choir has presented specific programmes for women's choirs of different composers and periods, such as: Programme of German romantic music for women's heart and piano, with lieds by Brahms and Schubertbased on poems by German authors of the same period(2008);programme of music for women's heart and harp by different 20th century composers (2009); programme for women's heart and continuo with 16th century music composed for convents (2010); programme of religious music from the 19th and 20th centuries for women's choirs and piano with works by Mendelsohnn, Fauré, Poulenc, etc. (2014).
