Conference on the multidisciplinary nature of Cultural Heritage and the territory, at the Universitat

The 22nd November, at the Palmireno Room of the Faculty of Geography and History will host the conference Visiones del patrimonio cultural: disciplinas y territorio (Visions of cultural heritage: disciplines and territory). At this conference, specialists from the Universitat de València and representatives of the institutions responsible for Valencia's cultural heritage will debate the present, past and future of heritage studies in the territory.

The Universitat de València, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Society in collaboration with the Faculty of Geography and History, the Analytical Chemistry Department and the Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage:  Identification, Analysis and Management and the Master’s Degree in Archaeology, launches the first edition of the days on Visiones del Patrimonio Cultural (Perspectives of Cultural Heritage), with financing from Caixa Popular.

The conference will start at 9:30 a.m. by the vice-Principal of Territorial Projection and Society, Jorge Hermosilla; the Dean of the Faculty of Geography and History, Josep Montesinos; and the director of Institutional Relations and Social Responsibility of Caixa Popular, Paco Alós.

José Luis Jiménez (Director of the Master's Degree in Cultural Heritage, UV), Beatriz Santamarina (Sociology and Social Anthropology, UV), Mª José Mascarell (Administrative and Procedural Law, UV), Clodoaldo Roldán (Applied Physics and Electromagnetism, UV) will participate as lecturers. At 12:30 p.m. the conference will be given by Antonio Bravo, Director of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Generalitat Valenciana, followed by Eugeni de Manuel, coordinator of the Federación Valenciana de Municipios y Provincias (Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces).

The afternoon session will feature a round table moderated by the Head of Initiatives of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Society, Ángel Morales (Analytical Chemistry, UV), which will focus on the multidisciplinary nature of cultural heritage and experiences in the territory. Consuelo Mata (Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History, UV) will present the case of the Kelin conference; Agustín Pastor (Analytical Chemistry, UV), will deal with chemical analysis at the Sagunto Castle; Oreto Garcia (Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History, UV) will explain the master plan for Cave Paintings that he has coordinated; Rafael Gil (Art History, UV) will focus on the new textile museum in Ontinyent; Javier Navarro (Modern History, UV) and Eva Garcia (Diputació de València) will share their experience in the Història i memòria democràtica Room of the Universitat de València; and Emilio Iranzo (Geography, UV) will emphasise the relationship between landscape, heritage and Valencian identity.

This sessions aims to raise awareness of the importance of multidisciplinary aspects in studies related to the enhancement and conservation of cultural heritage in the territory. To promote the creation of synergies between the different knowledge areas researched in this field at the Universitat de València.  As well as the impact of the studies carried out between the different actors within the institution and their support to territorial agents such as museums or town halls, Diputació (Valencian Provincial Government), Conselleria (Valencian Ministry) or other entities committed to the protection of Heritage.
