The Confucius Institut of the Universitat de València (ICUV), in collaboration with El Corte Inglés, is organising the Drawing Contest 'Confucius arrives in Valencia through the Silk Road' for the fifth consecutive year. The artistic competition, which is aimed at schoolchildren in Primary School Education up to Secondary Education, hopes to introduce the famous Chinese thinker who lived more than 2,500 years ago to children and young people.

It is also intended to highlight the influence of the ideas of Master Confucius, which travelled along the Silk Road, from its beginning in the Chinese city of Xi'an, to its final destination, 9,090 km away, in Valencia. This city was recognised by UNESCO as 'Silk City 2016', the year in which this competition began. In addition, China and Valencia share agricultural products such as oranges and rice; inventions like fireworks; craftwork like porcelain and, of course, silk.

In this edition, and due to the current health crisis, the competition will be held remotely. Participants have to download a document from the ICUV website,  www.uv.es/confucio, which includes the tale and a blank sheet of paper to make the drawing, enter their personal information and read the contest rules. Once the drawing is completed, it must be scanned or photographed to sent to theemail address instituto.confucio@uv.es. Any original that is inspired by the mentioned tale, using any drawing or colour painting procedure, made by hand, except for the oil painting technique, will be accepted.

The reception of pieces of work will conclude on Friday the 20th of November and the submission will take place on Friday the 27th of November, coinciding with the 13th anniversary of the ICUV's foundation in Valencia. The panel will be formed by members of this institution, as well as people related to tourism, silk and fine arts. 8 prizes will be awarded, one for each participating year, and 3 special prizes for those schools that present a higher participation and a better overall work. The awarded and more relevant works will be exhibited in the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.
