The ones who attend this cavalcade could enjoy the Lion and Dragon Dance, tai chi and wushu displays, in addition to marvellous carriages and ethnic parades in a cavalcade which, according to the organisation, is better this year because of the improvements applied to make it more attractive. 

The Confucius Institute of Universitat de València, one of the referential centres to study the Chinese language and culture, organises different activities for the whole week as a part of this celebration of Chinese popular culture with the beginning of the Year of the Pig.  Vicent Andreu, director of the Confucius Institute; Sandra Gómez, councillor of Economic Development in the Ajuntament de València; and Zhengpeng Zhou, president of the Chinese Merchants’ Association have participated in the introduction of the events.

The events of the Chinese New Year started officially on 5th of February, so the introduction to the VIII edition of this cavalcade coincided with the last day of the year, according to the Chinese calendar.  As it is tradition in València, on the immediately following weekend, a cavalcade, which the mayor of València Joan Ribó will attend, will be celebrated.

Vicente Andreu, director of the Confucius Institute of Universitat de València, which has been repeatedly considered as one of the most active offices among the more than 500 that this Institute has all over the world, thanked to the Ajuntament de València the organisation of the cavalcade. Moreover, Vicente Andreu has shown his gratitude to the Chinese community living in the city because of the work they made, decorating the streets and contributing to create a celebration which everybody can enjoy.  Andreu has highlighted that ‘València approaches to China with this celebration’ and he reminded that it is ‘tonight when China celebrates its New Year, so tomorrow is the first day of the year 4717’.   He also said that the relatives of the Chinese people living in València come these days to our city, what contributes to put our name on the map of the cities which celebrate the Chinese New Year, whose symbol is the Pig’. He explained that the pig, in the Chinese culture, “means happiness, harmony, and economic prosperity, but what’s more important, we learn some nuances of Chinese Culture, a task to which the Confucius Institute of Universitat de València would like to contribute for the whole year.’
