Concurs 'Puente a China'

The Confucius Institute of the Universitat de València (ICUV) celebrates today in the Palau de la Música of València from 9:00 to 14:00h the National Phase of the contest ‘Puente a China.’ It is the 16th edition for university students and the 10th edition for secondary students. The motto is “Los sueños iluminan el futuro”.

The competition is organised this year by the Confucius Institute of the Universitat de València (ICUV) and will count on the attendance of the Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China in Spain, Lyu Fan.

Its main objective is to increase the dissemination of Chinese language, awaken the worldwide interest for the teaching of Confucius language among students and consolidate the knowledge of Chinese language and culture. In this contest, the students can show their level of Chinese, as well as their knowledge about this civilisation.

The ICUV was created 10 years ago and has become a model of the Chinese language, culture and society in the Region of Valencia. More than 5,000 students have attended Chinese lessons in this institute since 2007 and 3,000 people have taken an exam to get an official certificate in Chinese. Confucius Institute is the unique official school of HSK and YCT exams for adults and children respectively.

In 2008 and 2009 it was considered as one of the best 20 Confucius institutes in the world. In 2011 and 2012 its director was awarded as one of the best 30 directors in the world. Since December 2015, it has the title of ‘Confucius Institute Model’. There are only 15 in the world, 6 of them are in Europe and only this one in Spain.

Since 2010 the Institute publishes the bilingual bimonthly publication, Magazine Confucius Institute, in Spanish and Chinese for Spanish speakers of Latin America, Portugal and Spain.  It is the unique cultural and educational magazine in Spanish and Chinese languages. Also, it serves as a cultural dialogue tool between China and Ibero-America through Spain.  This year a book club on Internet of this magazine has been created, and has more than 30,000 followers on social networks (www.confuciomag.com).

During these 10 years, the institute has organised more than 300 cultural and academic events and 80,000 participants have attended them. It has a wide range of subjects such as artistic, musical, pictorial, photographic, gastronomic, cultural and festive manifestations. And this has contributed to gain a high popularity in the Valencian society as a bridge of knowledge between these two interrelated realities: the Chinese and Valencian.

Two university headquarters at Blasco Ibáñez Campus (Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication) and Tarongers Campus (building Beatriu Civera in calle Serpis) are available. It has granted more than 50 scholarships and organises a summer camp for its students.

Furthermore, it participates in the initiative of the Silk Road 2016-2020, which starts in the Chinese town Xian and ends up in Valencia. It has been organised some conferences and cultural activities related to tourism and commercial relations with China.
