The number of students who have decided to take part in a course exceeds several hundred only in the first week. This shows the great acceptance of the Chinese language among the Valencian student population. There are courses offered to university students which are equivalent to open credits for any degree, depending on levels and the class hours: from 1’5 to 3 credits per year if the academic objectives are achieved.

There is a wide variety of courses whose enrolment deadline is still open: up to 50 courses with different levels and timetables. A wide range of training options: from the most basics ones to courses to prepare the official exams HSK-YCT. In fact, the ICUV itself tests the students this May. There are also some courses aimed to gain knowledge and language skills within a business environment. It is also remarkable the importance of the children registration. This was, almost a decade ago, a pioneering initiative since the ICUV was one of the first centres in Spain that spread the Chinese language, culture and society and that offered their courses to the child population inside the university.

The opening ceremony of the academic year 2017-2018 has gathered more than a hundred of students from both primary and secondary school, accompanied by their family, as well as the academic responsibles of the ICUV. The director of the centre has expressed his satisfaction because in ten years the Confucius Institute has become a benchmark of Chinese language, culture and society in Valencia. It has also established a bridge of educational exchanges with that country in which the mastery of the language opens great professional horizons’. The ceremony of diplomas has concluded with a performance of magic, with multiple references to China and the Silk Road. The ICUV has organised, for a second year in a row, a drawing contest about the tale “Confucius arrives in Valencia through the Silk Road” for primary and secondary school students. The drawing can be handed over until 3rd October.

This year the ICUV celebrates the 10th anniversary and it is considered ‘Model Confucius Institute’ from the central Hanban headquarters.  Up to now 5.000 students have attended their courses. The teaching staff in charge of the courses are natives and they come from the Northeast Normal University (NENU) and has the highest academic standards and professional competencies. The facilities are prepared with the latest technology for the language learning and they work in all the headquarters: in Blasco Ibañez Campus, at the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication as well as in Tarongers Campus, at the Beatriu Civera’s building (Serpis Street).
