The Confucius Institute of the Universitat de València (ICUV), in collaboration with the Northeast Normal University (NENU) based in Changchun -capital of the Chinese province of Jilin- inaugurated this Tuesday 29th March the Spring Camp 2022. The aim of this virtual camp is to introduce students to Chinese culture, as well as to provide them with more opportunities to practice speaking skills in preparation for the

Chinese Bridge public speaking competition. The duration of the Spring Camp is from 29th March to 30th April.

From Changchun, the Vice-principal for International Relations of NENU, Han Dongyu, and the acting Chinese director of the ICUV, Gao Hongbo, took part in the virtual opening ceremony. From Valencia, the Vice-principal for Internationalisation, Carles Padilla, and the director of the Confucius Institute (ICUV), Vicente Andreu, took part.

The Vice-principal of NENU took the opportunity to congratulate Mavi Mestre on her re-election as Principal of the Universitat de València. He also praised in his speech "the gratifying achievements born from the cooperation between the two universities after almost 15 years of construction and development". Vice-principal Carles Padilla, for his part, stressed that "the task of disseminating Chinese language, culture and society in Valencia has borne great academic fruit, and has also been enhanced by the relationship with society".

The acting Chinese director, Gao Hongbo, emphasised that this camp will help to better understand China and its culture. The director of the ICUV, Vicente Andreu, wanted to send his support to the city of Changchun, and especially to NENU, for the situation they are experiencing, as the pandemic has worsened in recent weeks.

The ICUV has decided to strengthen its strategic partnership with NENU, a specialised university in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and pedagogical innovation. It is ranked 37th in the country and is classified as First Class. It was established in 1950 and has a teaching staff of around 1,600 teachers who teach more than 27,000 students.

The ICUV began its activity in 2007 and, since then, more than 5,000 students have passed through its classrooms. It is the official centre for Chinese language examinations. The ICUV has been considered a 'Model Confucius Institute' since 2015 by the Chinese headquarters. It has received several awards and mentions, including in 2017 the Distinction for Cultural Merit 9 d'Octubre from the Generalitat "for serving as a bridge between Chinese and Valencian cultures".
