The manager of the General Foundation of the Universitat de València, Cristóbal Suria, has been appointed as a spokesperson of the Consell Assessor del Mecenatge, the advisory body of the Generalitat Valenciana for non-professional cultural, scientific and sports sponsorship. The appointment of Suria took place in the constitutive session of the Consell on the 14th of May because he was a prestigious expert in the foundational field.

The purpose of the Consell Assessor del Mecenatge is to carry out the proposal of declaration of social interest of the non-professional projects and activities related to culture, science or sports at the request of the beneficiary people or entities; to examine the activities or projects considered of social interest without need of an express declaration; to propose the declaration of events of special relevance and to guarantee the control over transparency and advertising of the sponsorship actions.

The Consell has a parity of representation and, apart from the departments of the Consell, there are other members from the Consell Valencià de Cultura, the Valencian public universities, public institutes and research centres, and from the Valencian public centres of Arts.

This body is regulated by the Llei del mecenatge cultural, científic i esportiu no professional a la Comunitat Valenciana, (Law of cultural, scientific and sports non-professional sponsorship of the Valencian Community), a law that aims at encouraging and promoting the private sponsorship, a voluntary and philanthropic action that is configured as a force of participation and social responsibility that favours freedom and cultural diversity, contributes to the development of creativity, economic growth and enrichment of the cultural capital of society.

During the first meeting of the Consell, the members analysed and assessed the communications of social interest presented during the February 2019 call for the beneficiary entities of the sponsorship. When the proposals are assessed, any person may offer an economic contribution in order to carry out the project, same procedure as in the platforms of microsponsorship. Moreover, the sponsors may write off a maximum of 25% of their contribution in the income statement, when this amount does not go over the 30% of the tax basis of the annual incomes.

Soon, the Oficina del Mecenatge will publish on their own website (www.mecenatge.gva.es) the different projects, in which anyone may offer their microsponsorship contribution.
