Dances from around the world, relaxing activity and a round table to celebrate the World Day for Physical Activity

The Universitat de Valencia, through the Physical Education and Sports Service (SEF) joins the celebration of the World Day for Physical Activity the next Thursday 6 April. This is an initiative carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to commemorate the sport’s benefits in health. Dances from around the world, t’ai-chi, aikido, yoga and a round table constitute the activity programme which starts at 9:30 in the Pavilion of Blasco Ibáñez.

The organisation of the World Day for Physical Activity is coordinated through an agreement between the Trinidad Alonso Foundation and the seven Valencian universities. “We want so enhance the importance of sports in health, thus the Universitat de València joins the WHO’s initiative through open and inclusive activities, addressed to the general public, members of the university community and citizens in general”, explains the director of the SEF, José Campos.

The activity programme, called “Get moving”, will start with mild physical exercise in the Pavilion of Blasco Ibáñez: yoga (9:30 h.), aikido (11:00 h.) and tai-chi (12:00 h.). The afternoon programming, from 16:00 to 18:00, will be dedicated to dances around the world: bollywood, oriental dance, African dance, bachata and batucada.

Then (18:30 h.), the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sience (FCAFE) will foster a round table of experts who, moderated by José Campos, will debate about sports as an inclusive tool and promotor of healthy lifestyles. They will participate José María Nácher, professor of Applied Economics at the Universitat de València, who will talk about grassroots sport and metropolitan social inclusion illustrated in a practical case of the handball club of Mislata; Álex Salvador, Marketing director of Cárnicas Serrano, who will tackle the integration through race; Alejandro Martínez, responsible of the programme “Healthy Week” of FCAFE, will give the conference “Physical activity, health and social justice”; and Héctor Cabrera, Paralympic athlete who participated in Rio 2016, will develop the conference “Competitive sport as a way of personal improvement”.
