On Monday 28th October, at 7 p.m., at the Aula Magna of the La Nau Cultural Centre of the Universitat de València, the conference entitled Guía para entender el Brexit (Guide to understanding Brexit) will take place, given by Álvaro Anchuelo, Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Alcalá.

This conference, part of the cycle of debates Las razones de Europa (Europe's Reasons), is organised by the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives.  The European Commission's Jean Monnet Action is also involved in this particular conference.

In Guía para entender el Brexit, the economist, professor and politician from Madrid, who also specialises in European Union economics, will explain the main keys to understanding Brexit, this political phenomenon that has been drawing the attention of all the international media for more than three years.

Álvaro Anchuelo will approach this complex subject from a broad perspective, ideal for an audience that does not specialise in economics. The Spanish economist and politician, who was in the Congress of Deputies representing the UPyD party, will review the historical peculiarities that have characterized the relationship in the United Kingdom and the European Union, in addition to analysing the exit agreement and the different elements that compose them.

In this conference, Anchuelo will also review the different models of future relationship that could exist between the United Kingdom and the EU-27, the latter formed by the free trade agreement, the customs union or the single market.  In his speech, the Professor of the University of Alcalá will also review the effects of Brexit on the Spanish economy, both at an aggregate level and in the specific sectors most affected.

The Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives is a cultural project, promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport and managed by the Universitat de València General Foundation, which is configured as a space for reflection and participatory and critical debate on current affairs. The Escola has the participation of other actors form public administration and civil society:  Presidency of the Valencian Government, València City Council, the Department for Transparency and Eduaction, Research, Culture and Sport, the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, Institut Alfons el Magnànim, European School of Humanities and Caixa Popular.
