Eighteen researchers from the University of Valencia stand out for the quality of their research, according to the H Index, an indicator of professional quality of the research staff based on the number of citations received by published scientific articles. In the province of Valencia, where the researchers of up to five institutions are counted, the scientists of the University are 52.94% of the total, and on the whole of the Valencian Community they represent 38.29%.

The H Index detects the experts who receive the most appointments in the areas of Biology, Health Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Technology, Engineering and Applied Sciences. This classification is based on the average H Factor (HF), or relationship between the H Index of each researcher and the average value of those H of the other authors that are in the ranking of their area. In its latest update, it shows the list of the 428 most important female researchers in Spain, out of 786 analysed, in the period between March 2019 and January 25, 2020.

The researchers of the University of Valencia mentioned are Dolors Corella (Nutrition and Dietetics), Yolanda Picó (Analytical Chemistry), Guillermina Font (Toxicology), Alicia Salvador (Behavioural Sciences), María Dolores Bargues (Parasitology), Rosa María Baños (Psychology Clinic), María José Alcaraz (Pharmacology and Pharmacy). Also Isabel Balaguer (Applied Psychology), Amparo Latorre (Genetics and Inheritance), Manuela Merchán (Physical Chemistry), María Teresa Donato (Pharmacology and Pharmacy), María J. Bayarri (Statistics and Probability) and Marisol Lila (Psychology). The list is completed by researchers Ana Belén Gaspar (Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry), Rosa María Giner (Pharmacology and Pharmacy), Ana Lluch (Oncology), Maria Adela Valero (Parasitology) and Marina Berenguer (Gastroenterology and Hepatology).

Regarding the Valencian Community, the H Index shows female scientists from five universities and three higher public research centres: the University of Valencia, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Higher Council for Scientific Research, the Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA) and the Prince Felipe Research Centre of Valencia (province of Valencia); the Universities of Alicante and Elche (province of Alicante) and the Jaume I University (Castellón).

The H Index in Spain is published by the H Index Dissemination Group (IHL). The provinces with the most female researchers in this classification are Madrid (109 researchers), Barcelona (87), Valencia (33), Granada (20) and Murcia and Seville (14 each).
