The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia will host from February 8 to 10 the XI Biomedical Research Congress with the participation of more than 450 students from different Spanish universities. Through different activities such as debates, conferences, workshops or round tables, gender equality in science will be promoted and the role of women in the development of biomedical research will be made visible.

The XI edition of the Congress of Biomedical Research (CIB) was opened by the Rector of the University of Valencia, Ms. Mavi Mestre, who gave a speech before the opening table in which the President of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Mr. Francisco Javier Chorro; the President of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Ms. Carmen Bañó and the President and the President of the Organizing Committee of the congress, Ms. Ana Blas and Mr. Álvaro Blázquez. To close the opening ceremony, the Director of the Institute of Hematological and Oncological Diseases of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Mr. Álvaro Urbano, gave the Inaugural Conference.

This congress is a meeting point for students, researchers and scientists to promote critical thinking. Its objectives are to create an international meeting point that promotes the exchange of knowledge between different countries, facilitating the growth of scientific knowledge and adapting the content to current themes in order to facilitate the information of the student community.

Moreover, it has as an additional value the fact that it is entirely created by students and, therefore, it becomes a resource that helps them in their training.

Among the programmed activities we can find different lectures and round tables -in addition to the one by Mr. Álvaro Urbano mentioned above- that will deal with topics such as genetics and music to fight against diseases, personal genomes or cell therapy. This will be complemented by more than forty workshops going from electron microscopy to philosophy underpinning science, in which congress participants will be able to investigate seminal quality, see ophthalmological emergencies or investigate proteins among a long list of possibilities.
