The new course starts an initiative to promote gender equality

The Universitat de València starts the course welcoming new students with a plan of activities linked to gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.

Bienvenida en Igualdad is a project of the Unidad de Igualdad that will start its activities in September. It consists in a series of events aiming to bring closer the equality of opportunities and the prevention of gender-based violence among new students. The project is formed by three events: welcoming sessions in the university centres, Pamela Palenciano’s monologues on the three campuses and a training session that will count with experts in coeducation. The programme is subsidised by the Instituto de la Mujer. It will start on 3rd September with a series of aware-raising videos on gender based violence that will be projected in 18 university centres.

Each centre will introduce the Unidad de Igualdad by means of videos specifically made for the occasion. These videos are available in Valencian, Spanish and English. You can watch them in the following links:

The welcoming sessions will take place during the first two weeks of September in 18 centres of the Universitat de València in which informative videos will be projected. They will address the importance of equality in the Universitat de València.

Pamela Palenciano’s monologue No solo duelen los golpes will be presented on 18th and 19th September. There will be a talk about preventing gender-based violence among young people. Admission is free but the capacity of the room will be limited. It will take place on the following dates:

Blasco Ibáñez Campus

18th September, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences

Burjassot-Paterna Campus

19th September, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Library Eduardo Boscá

Tarongers Campus

19th September, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences

The programme Bienvenida en Igualdad will conclude with the conference Universidad Libre de Violencia Machista. It will take place on 16th October at 5 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València. Five women will start the presentation ceremony. Marian Moreno Llaneza is a secondary school professor, an expert in coeducation and the author of Escuelas Libres de Violencias Machistas. Kika Fumero is a secondary school professor and a member of the Observatorio Coeducativo LGTBI. She focuses on training the teaching body in coeducation, sexual and emotional diversity. Mercedes Sánchez Vico graduated in Political Sciences and Sociology and is a professor of Sociology at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide with a large experience as a coeducation trainer. Rosa Sanchis is a secondary professor of IES Isabel de Villena and an expert in gender and coeducation. Finally, there will be a representative of Fil a l’Agulla, which is a cooperative formed by six women that is intended to raise awareness on these issues (they are currently working in several coeducation local plans in Barcelona its metropolitan area).
