The electoral campaign for the Office of the Principal at the Universitat de València kicks off

The electoral campaign for the Office of the Principal at the Universitat de València starts this Tuesday, 23 of January. There are three candidatures headed by Mavi Mestre, María Antonia García Benau and Vicent Martínez. Voting will take place on February 22. In case a second round is necessary, voting will happen on March 6.

On February 22, voting will take place between 10 a.m. and 18 p.m. However, before the Election Day there will be a debate on February 5 in front of an extraordinary senate in the Darwin Hall at the Burjassot/Paterna Campus.

The census includes 1986 doctors permanently linked to university, 1891 non-doctor professors or professors without a permanent link to university, 546 associate professors from Private Public-Partnership Health Institutions, 437 trainee research staff, 44,773 students (Undergraduate and Master’s Degree students), and 1968 members of the administrative staff.

Results are calculated by a pondered voting system.  Following the article 101 of the Statutes of the Universitat de València, the election of the Principal is done through direct voting and universal, free and secret suffrage.  Vote is pondered depending on the sector of the University Community as it follows:

Doctors permanently linked to the University have 51% of the total value of votes.

Votes from non-doctor professors or professors without a permanent link to university count 12.67%.

Student votes count 25%.

Votes from the administrative staff count 10%.

Votes from trainee research staff count 1.33%.

Under this article, the candidate who obtains an absolute majority of pondered votes in the first round will be proclaimed Principal of the Universitat de València.
