The Professor Elena Cantarino, from Philosophy Department, has been chosen as President of University Comission of Spanish Philosophy Network (REF). The naming was on 19 December, when the Ref’s governing board, with the current President Txetxu Ausín (Philosophy Institut, CCHS-CSIC), confirmed the decision made in the last General Assembly.

The REF is an organisation that tries to bring together the Spanish philosophic community and to coordinate all associations, foundations, teaching institutions and research centres, related to the philosophic field.

It is set up by the Spanish Conference of Dean Houses of Philosophy, Philosophy Institut of CSIC and more than fifty philosophic associations of different fields, educative levels and regions.

REF was created in the conference about ‘La situación de la filosofía en el sistema educativo español’ (The condition of Philosophy in the Spanish educative system), organised by Spanish Conference of Dean Houses of Philosophy and eight philosophic associations (AEEFP, AFBP, AHF, SAF, SEFA, SEPFI, SHAF and SLMFC), and took place on 4 and 5 May 2012 at Faculty of Philosophy in Complutense University of Madrid.

In those conferences, the Statement of Spanish Philosophy (5 May 2012) was approved, published in all Spanish official languages (Spanish, Catalan-Valencian, Galician and Basque) and other European languages (German, French, English and Portuguese). That Statement resolved to do, among other agreements, the creation of REF that was born two month later on 29 June 2012 in a meeting at Faculty of Philosophy of Complutense University of Madrid.

REF has five permanent commissions:

  • Education Comission. Works in the Philosophy teaching matter in primary and secondary school.
  • University Commission. Works in the Philosophy teaching matter in the university level of degree, master’s degree and doctorate.
  • Research Commission. Promotes and evaluates the philosophic research.
  • Philosophic Olympiad Commission. They organised the annual Spanish Philosophic Olympiad. More information of the Spanish Philosophic Olympiad at the official web page.
