Last week, the Spanish University Championship (CEU) finals were held in various disciplines, both team and individual. Our students did their best and won several trophies and medals.

Volleyball

The Spanish University Volleyball Championship was held at the University of Castilla–La Mancha. Both the men’s and the women’s teams had an excellent run in the competition, losing in the end to the same opponent: the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), who won both categories.

On the one hand, the men’s team won 2ndplace. They had made it to the finals with high hopes, but had just finished a very tough semi-final that went one set further than usual. Meanwhile, the other finalist had a shorter and less difficult semi-final and our team could not beat them.

On the other hand, the women’s team lost in the semi-final to the UCAM, who also won 1stplace. Nevertheless, our team was able to recover for the semi-final where they played against the University of Alacant, with three tight sets: 25-22, 23-25 and 15-13.

Rugby

In addition to the volleyball wins, the women’s rugby team won 3rdplace in the CEU, while the men’s team almost won.

The competition was played on artificial turf in the sports facilities of Zaragoza, since the championship was being hosted by the University of San Jorge.

Football

The women’s football team also won 3rdplace in the Football CEU, held at the University of Granada and after beating the University of Barcelona 2 to 1. You can watch the match again by clicking on the link below:

Climbing

The CEU Climbing was held in Chillarón, Cuenca, and was hosted by the University of Castilla–La Mancha. The Universitat de València participated with a team of seven climbers. The most outstanding performances came from Alba Gómez Calatayud, a student of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and Iker Ortiz Tudela, a student of Physiotherapy. Iker came 4thin the difficulty test and 14thin the joint test, and Alba came 9thin the difficulty test and 12thin the joint test. They almost won a medal for the UV, thanks to their results combined with their teammates’, but in the end we ended up in the 4thplace.

3x3 Basketball

At the CEU 3x3 Basketball in Zaragoza, the UV’s men’s and women’s teams followed similar paths. Both lost in the quarter finals to the teams that finished 3rd.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on their performances!
