Esteban Morcillo, former Principal, receives the Universitat de València Medal today. The event will take place in the Paranimf of La Nau from noon and will presided by Mavi Mestre, Principal of the University, and Ximo Puig, President of the Valencian Government. Full Professor Federico Pallardó will make the tribute and MediaUni will broadcast the event.

Esteban Morcillo is a full professor of Pharmacology in the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology in the University. Graduate and doctor in Medicine by the Universitat de València and continued his studies with scholarships from Fullbright and the Spanish Ministry of Education in the John Hopkins University and the University of Michigan and in the University of Strathclyde in the UK.

Since he studied, professor Morcillo worked as grant holder, leading professor, trainee lecturer, and tenure-track professor until becoming full professor in the University of Alacalá first and in the Universitat de València since 1990.

As lead researcher He has carried out a many researches funded by the Spanish Ministries of Education and Health, the Valencian Government and the Carlos III Health Institute. His scientific work –specialised in asthma pharmacology and the COPD– has been gathered in more than 175 publications in international journals in the Science Citation Index as well as in Pharmacology, Medicine and Odontology books. He has also coordinated the programme for Life and Health Sector in the Valencian Plan for Science and Technology and represented the Science and Technology Inter-Ministerial Committee (CICYT) in Biomed2 project and COST project in the EU, and he is also the president of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology. He has six six-year increments and six five-year increments.

Throughout his educational path, he has worked on different university management positions as vice-principal for Research in the University of Alcalá and, in the Universitat de València, as a dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology in two consecutive periods (1999-2006), dean of the Principal (2006-2007) and vice-principal for Research and Scientific Policy (2007-2010). He was elected principal of the Universitat de València in 2010, and re-elected in 2014, when he finished according to the Constitution of the University.

Esteban Morcillo is an academic member of the Valencian Royal Medicine Academy and member of different national and international scientific societies. His research was awarded with the Galien Award of Research in Pharmacology.
