More than 50 students from the Universitat de València and members of 18 entities and NGOs took part last Saturday in the Voluntariat UV Experiences Space, a programme coordinated by the SeDi Information and Promotion Service. The activity, carried out at the Tarongers Campus, allowed the participating student body to get to know first-hand the work and projects being carried out by these social action entities.

Throughout the Saturday morning, the participants of the Voluntariat UV (UV Volunteering Programme) listened to lectures given by members of different associations working in cooperation, social mentoring, culture, people with Down syndrome, migrants or women victims of gender violence, among other areas. Participants could choose from more than 30 sessions given by collaborating entities working in different areas of action, one of the new features of the programme this year. For example, the Unity for the Integration of Disabled Individuals (UPD) of the Universitat, offered attendees the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of a blind person, a deaf person or a person with a wheelchair and tour the spaces of the Universitat.

Now, taking into account also their own interests and abilities, students have to choose a specific area from which they will receive specialised training in the next volunteer sessions. Inclusion, education and free time, international cooperation, revitalisation of the environment (environmental and cultural) and empowerment and human rights are the areas that the program makes available. Once the training period has been completed, they will have the option, if they are willing to, of putting it into practice and carrying out a voluntary action in one of the entities, NGOs or associations that have participated in this experience.

This year's edition of Voluntariat UV has been offered to a limited number of participants because, once completed, a review, evaluation and a gathering of proposals for improvement will be carried out. This phase of evaluation will serve to define the next editions.

The Voluntariat UV programme is a Universitat de València initiative, aimed at all students, which aims to respond to the institutional commitment to training and education in this field, promoting a critical view of reality that makes students participate in the construction of a fairer and more equitable society.
