The University of Valencia hosts the Workshop on Labour Culture in Research (J-CLI) this Thursday October 20 in the assembly hall of the Technical School of Engineering (ETSE-UV). The act seeks to create a critical social forum to publicise the labour aspects and the rights of the science and research sector, promote collective awareness and offer a channel of dissemination and interaction for scientists. The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia collaborates in the activity.

The meeting, with registration open here, will be between 4 and 7 p.m. and will include two activities. On the one hand, the seminar “Climes, canvis i incerteses. Situar-nos com a investigadores”, by Violeta Cabello of the Basque Center for Climate Change. The event will be presented by Guillermo Muñoz Matutano, a researcher at the Materials Science Institute (ICMUV) and a member of the Piratas de la Ciencia association.

The second activity is the debate panel “Interprecarietats. Connectats per l’explotació”, in which Professor Jordi Pérez-Asensio (PDI-Precarietat), Pilar Monsalvete Álvarez (Marea Granate-Science), Elisa Fernández (CCOO – CSIC) and researcher Maria Coto will participate. This act is moderated by Alejandro Gaita-Ariño, distinguished researcher of excellence at the Institute of Molecular Science (IcMol) of the University of Valencia. In addition to the associations mentioned, the Coordinadora Valenciana de Treballadores de la ciència (CVTV), FPI en Lucha, Rebelión científica, CNT Valencia and Producciones Gorgona also collaborate.

In addition, as complementary activities, on Thursday night, two leisure activities have been organised that will take place in the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. On the one hand, at 8 p.m., the screening of short films on science and society and a debate panel, with Mercedes Aler (Piratas de la Ciencia), Eva Pastor (UV Botanical Garden), Ascensión Andrés Garrido (FPI en Lucha) and Carlos Romá Mateo (UV). And later, a live role-playing game: “: “6016: una investigación de género en el futuro”, by Mirella Machancoses (Gorgona productions).

The J-CLI conferences take place this October in three different venues: Santiago de Compostela, Valencia and Madrid. They have a hybrid format, with the possibility of attending the activities of each venue in person, as well as following the sessions electronically via streaming.
