The scientific and informative activity addressed how important sustainability is in the near future of healthcare and was one of the first activities carried out by the Chair after its renewal last July.

The masterclass organised by the Valencian School for Health Studies (EVES) Chair, titled Sustainability in healthcare systems: a green perspective, took place today. The city councillor of Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló; the principal of the University of Valencia, M. Vicenta Mestre, and the president of Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), Cristina Henríquez, participated in the inauguration.

The activity took place in a hybrid modality: the people in attendance participated online and the speakers met face-to-face at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. This conference resumed the activities of the Chair after its renewal last June. Current issues such as the bioclimatic and global crisis, as well as the pressure on healthcare systems were discussed.

One of the topics emphasised was the sustainability of healthcare in the near future by addressing the direct impacts of climate change, such as the spread of vecto-borne diseases, rising temperatures, droughts, storms, as well as the mass migration of climate refugees, which have health consequences that will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable and marginalised populations.

This scientific and informative activity, aimed mainly at healthcare workers, was attended by some of the best regional, national and international specialists in the field, such as Carlos Baeza, pneumologist and attending physician in the Pneumology Department of the Hospital General Universitario de Elche; Dolores Corella, professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Valencia; Rafael Ortí, head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Hospital Clínico Universitario de València; and Manuel Pineda, member of the regional parliament and of the Health and Consumption Commission of the Valencian Parliament.
