The exhibition 'Viñetas migrantes: cómic, migración y memoria' comes to Gandía

This exhibition is born from the desire to make visible how, in recent years, the comic has been a medium committed to such a complex reality, so close to the reality of the world and as transcendent as the migratory phenomenon. It opens its doors in the “Sala Tossal” of the Gandia International Centre of the UV next Thursday, 29 February at 18:30.

Three large suitcases at the foot of a symbolic self-portrait by Joaquim Aubert "Kim", taken from his book “Nieve en los bolsillos”, open the exhibition Viñetas migrantes. Comic, migration and memory, curated by David Fernández and Lilianna Marín and directed by Imma Boj, director of the Museum of Immigration History of Catalonia. An exhibition that comes to Gandia thanks to the collaboration with the “Aula Didáctica Diáspora del Mediterráneo” of the Valencian Government.

Viñetas migrantes. Comic, migration and memory weaves a portrait of the migratory phenomenon through the comic strip, but also through the evolution of the society that has starred or recreated it. To illustrate this evolution, the exhibition is dividedinto three sections (El exilio, Del gran trauma al underground y Migraciones globales). The exhibition presents a wide variety of views on the period between the Spanish Civil War and the present day, linking the life and artistic experience of the authors of recent decades with the work of contemporary cartoonists and scriptwriters who have depicted these realities in their comics. In the first area, for example, Josep Narro and Josep Bartolí's portrayal of Republican exile and the French concentration camps are contrasted with some of the comics that, like “El arte de volar”, by Antonio Altarriba and Kim, and “Los surcos del azar”, by Paco Roca, have become contemporary classics about the Spanish Civil War.
