Once again, the UV participates in the events of PRIDE month through the ‘Diversitats’ initiative promoted by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor of Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies. Exhibitions, workshops, prizes and guidebook presentations are among a few of the activities that will take place during the month of June.

International LGBT+ PRIDE day is celebrated on 28 June to commemorate the Stonewall Riot of 1969. This riot was provoked by a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a popular bar and refuge for the ostracised members of the LGTB+ community in New York City in the late 60s. Thus, this day is recognised as the first time the LGBT+ community stood together to fight against the system that oppressed them.

For this reason, ‘Diversitats’ has organised events and activities during the entire month of June. The aim is to raise awareness of the different initiatives and events in which the University of Valencia participates that give visibility to diversity and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Already scheduled are exhibitions, workshops, prizes and guidebook presentations, among others.

The exhibition will premiere on Friday 9 June at 7:30pm and will be accompanied by an acoustic concert by the artist Sita Rizzi. One day before, on Thursday 8 June, there will be a meeting with the artist and a poetry reading ‘Amors sense casa’ (Love without a home) by Begonya Pozo and Iago Muñoz.

And in the Rector’s Hall, you can visit the photography exhibition titled ‘Dando la cara. Un paseo por la diversidad’ (Showing our faces. A stroll through diversity). It aims to display representative photography that show positive references to diversity, with the goal of combating out-dated beliefs and prejudices.
