Experts and future doctors attend an international course on medical oncology at the Universitat de València

A hundred of future European doctors participate in the 15th edition of the International Course of Medical Oncology organised by the European Society for Medical Oncology ESMO at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitat de València. The UV professor and general director of INCLIVA, Andrés Cervantes, has been responsible of the opening ceremony of the meeting.

“The course is intended for European medicine students of 4th and 5th course. ESMO wants to attract talent and make our speciality attractive. This is a perfect occasion for those students that are interested in oncology to contact with the best European experts in this speciality,” stated the director of the course and the responsible of the training area of the European Society for Medical Oncology ESMO. “We expect to offer a complete theoretical and practical overview of cancer diagnosis and treatment by analysing real clinical situations of professionals working in the most renowned hospitals.”

ESMO has received over 600 European applications for 93 places.  Cervantes underlined that 6 participants are from the UV and 66% are women.

The meeting gathers 16 European oncologists during 4 days. They will lecture conferences and participate in panels of discussions on gastrointestinal, renal, ovarian, cancer, bowel, prostate, breast and lung cancer. Innovative oncology therapies and researches will be analysed.

On Tuesday 24, the Award to the Best Student will be given during the closing ceremony. It consists in a grant (€1,000) to join the annual congress of ESMO that will take place in Munich from 9 to 23 October.
