The ceremony of the Extraordinary PhD Awards

In a ceremony celebrated in the hall of La Nau, 72 doctors in different areas of the Universitat de València have been awarded with the Extraordinary PhD Awards this scholar year.

The principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre, conducted the ceremony in which the University Medal was given to Victoria del Barrio. The principal counted with the support of the vice-principal of Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vázquez, of the general secretary of the Universitat de València, Mª Elena Olmos, and of the director of the Escola de Doctorat, José Bagán.

During her speech, the principal Mª Vicenta Mestre reminded that the Extraordinary Awards ‘are the highest appreciation of our university system to the academic excellence.’

Mestre has also said that the awarded ones ‘not only highlight because of their intellectual capacity, but also because of their working skills, their efforts, their planning skills, their capacity to work together and their enthusiasm. She also thanked to the university community and to the families the support given to the awarded ones. 

In an agreement on the 3rd of July of the governing board of the Universitat de València, Juan José Peiró was considered to receive the Extraordinary Award in the area of Mathematics; the awarded ones in Physics are Mauro Brotons, Manuel Campos, Daniel González, Cristian Bosch, Rebecca Sarah Azulay and Astrid Hiller;and in Chemistry Javier Miró, Laura Francés, Alba Mir and Joaquín Calbó have been the successful candidates.

Aroa Duró, Alejandro Manzano, Anouk Willemsen, Estefanía García, David Talens and Irene Rubi have been awarded  in the area if Molecular and Cellular Biology.  In Natural Sciences, the award has been given to Mª Jesús Andrés, Natalia Fraija and Carla Olmo; and in Farmacy, it has been given to Laura Higueras, Celia Fernández-Blanco and Juana María Carbonell.

In Medicine, the awarded ones are César Díaz, Alfredo Perales, Fernando Alegre, Lucía Martí, Elena Bonet, Ana Mª Martínez, Isabel Lozoya, Jorge Montesinos, Inmaculada de Juan, Arantxa Cebrián, Estela Giménez, Layla Panach and Carlos Bueno.

The winner of the Extraordinary Award in Odontology is Leticia Mª Bagán; and in Physiotherapy,the winner is José Casaña. In Engineering, the successful one is Jordi Pla.  Anna Llorca, Mª Carmen Blanco, Sara Puig, Sandra Montagud and Carolina Villada have been awarded for their works in the field of Phychology.

The doctors awarded in Economics and Sociology are Fernando Palao, Nicolás Gambetta, Amparo Nagore, Marina Requena, Francisco D. Muñoz and Ascensión Doñate.  In the field of Law, Political Sciences and Criminology, Eduardo Enrique Talens, Mª Aranzazu Gandía, Carmen Rodilla, Vicenta Tasa and Andrés Gascón have received this award.

In Geography and History,  Paloma Vidal, Carlos Fuertes, Aurelio Martí, José San Ruperto, Nuria Soriano, Laura Gómez, Jorge Ramos and Patricia Horcajada have been awarded.  In the field of Philology, Translation and Communication, Cristina Villalba, Miguel Ángel Martínez, José Vicente Gamir and Ana Mª Mateu have obtained this appreciation.

Finally, in the field of Teaching Trainning José Javier Verdugo has been awarded. In addition, Víctor José Luque, Francisca Vanessa Vidal, Margarita Bakieva and Nerea Miravet received also this award, but in the area of Philosophy and Education Sciences.
