The conference is held coinciding, this week, with the proposal to create the University Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, by Mª Dolores Real, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Transfer of the UV, and which was approved by the Governing Council of the institution. The current BIOTECMED lines of research are, among others, biotechnology in forest and aromatic species, membrane proteins, biotechnological pest control, functional genomics of yeasts or developmental molecular genetics and biomedical models.

The VII Scientific Conference, organised by Joan Ferré, Professor of Genetics at the Faculty of Biological Sciences and founder of the ERI, includes several short lectures of between 20 and 30 minutes. Thus, Ramon Martínez Máñez will present the Interuniversity Institute of Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM), an entity of the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Three lectures will also be delivered: “Liberación controlada de fármacos y comunicación química”, “Sensores químicos para la detección de neurotransmisores”, and “Preformulación y evaluación de medicamentos”.

In addition, Carlos Martí-Gastaldo (Functional Inorganic Materials Team, FuniMAT e Instituto de Ciencia Molecular, IcMol), will deliver the conference “Metal-Organic Frameworks for Enantioselective Separation and Translocation of Enzymes” and Manuel Sánchez del Pino (ERI-Biotecmed) “Proteómica: más allá de la identificación de proteínas”. Also, Patricia Casino Ferrando (ERI-Biotecmed) will analyse the accessory equipment to perform transmission electron microscopy (TEM) under cryogenic conditions, while William J. Moar (IRM Cross-crop Pipeline Lead. Bayer US - Crop Science. Monsanto Company) will close the events with the conference “Regulatory considerations for RNAi-based products: the paradigm for transgenics and biologicals is still appropriate?”.
