The Festival de Benvinguda

Music, theatre, art, cinema and solidarity are the proposals for the Festival de Benvinguda of the UV that starts on 14 October and is held until the end of November in different places in Valencia and Ontinyent. The edition for this year will have a concert in the Plaza de toros de Valencia (which will also help Pobreza Cero), more music in different stages, cinema, theatre performances and Art Public interventions at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus.

After the start of the new academic year, the UV initiates a new edition of the Festival de Benvinguda with a wide range of cultural activities to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year and bring the proposals closer to the students, the rest of the university community and the whole Valencian society.

Concerts
Music is one of the most important points in the Festival. The main musical event, the Festival de Benvinguda, will be held at the Plaza de toros de Valencia on Thursday 20 October at 20:30 hours, and artists such as Manel and Els Catarres will perform as main bands. The quartet from Barcelona will come back to the Plaza de toros with their current album Jo competeixo, while Els Catarres will perform their last concert in the city of Valencia. The female duet Hits With Tits and Carles Biano (A màquina) will be the Dj that will mark the beginning and the end of the party.

The music at the Rector Peset Hall of Residence will be headed, on Friday 28 October, by the flamenco singer Curro Piñana, together with Francisco Tornero with the guitar.

In November, four bands, selected from the Pop-Rock Registry, will participate in two concerts. The first one in the Wha Wha Club on Thursday 3 November, and the second one in the Matisse Club on Thursday 10 November.

Art Public and University theatre
The Festival de Benvinguda will also include the 19th-century Mostra de Art Públic per a Joves Creadors (Exhibition of Public Art for Young Artist), with seven selected interventions which will be available for visits, from 17 to 21 October, in the different places at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus.

In November, the 2nd edition of ‘Parlem d’Art’ (Let’s talk about Art) will be held, a cycle of conferences that result from the students’ proposals.

From 18 to 28 October the 21st University Theatre Exhibition will be held in the Matilde Salvador Hall of the Cultural Centre La Nau, and it is organized by the Theatre Club of the UV where, for the first time, it will take place the dramatised reading of the awarded text of the Premios Universitat de València de Escritura de Creación (Universitat de València Awards for Creative Writing) in the theatre modality.

Festival de Benvinguda in the Ontinyent Campus
The student body of the Ontinyent Campus will enjoy the Concert de Benvinguda in Valencia with free transport that the UV will offer for this event. Furthermore, students and citizens may enjoy different conferences, a chorus performance and the ‘Refugiados’ Exhibition, by Georgi Licovsky y Marko Risovik.

Pobreza Cero
As in previous editions, the UV supports Pobreza Cero with the fundraising of the Concert de Benvinguda and with the institutional cooperation in awareness-raising activities and with the celebration of the International Day for the eradication of Poverty.

The Festival de Benvinguda is coordinated by the Students Delegation of the UV through SeDi (Information Service and Student's Promotion). The whole programme can be checked at www.uv.es/benvinguda
