Ogmios will tackle science in a different way, combining rigour with humour, and it will deal with a broad variety of topics: from pseudoscience to Quantum Mechanics, as well as the functioning of the brain, Astronomy, Scepticism, Mathematics or Biomedicine. The event, in which the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation of the Universitat de València participates, will be broadcasted on the live YouTube cannel of the City of Arts and Sciences.

There will be several people of the Universitat de València who will participate in the event, namely: Isabel Cordero, astrophysicist, researcher and member of the international collaboration Virgo; scientist Alberto Aparici, of the Instituto de Física Corpuscular; PhD in Molecular Biology and Professor Carlos Romá; researcher in Neuroscience Carmen Agustín; biotechnologist Lidia Monzó; and biologist of de I2SysBio Mariano Collantes (winner of the 1st Conference of Dissemination of Doctoral Thesis of the UV), amongst others.

In addition, the School of Engineering of the Universitat de València (ETSE-UV) co-organises a kids workshop. It will take place in a miniature football field, where there will be a match with 4 NXT robots, assembled like a Tribot and controlled through Bluetooth via wireless devices. The Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) of the Universitat and the CSIC are also hosting the workshop “Aceledadores de particular, explorando los límites de la materia”, in which researchers of the CERN will explain how these machines work, accelerating balls instead of particles.

 “Because of the immense educational power of the city of Valencia and our passion for science dissemination, we have decided to create the macro event Ogmios”, explained Ignacio Crespo, member of the Valencian Federation of Science Dissemination (FEVADIC).

This activity goes beyond traditional talks and it will feature live podcasts. For example, Radio 4’s programme A Ciencia Cierta, hosted by Antonio Rivera, will bring to the stage scientific revolutions and it will involve physicist David Ibáñez and political scientist Gemma Rabal.

 “Ogmios is conceived to incorporate different ways of science dissemination with the objective of expanding science to everyone in a friendly, fun and curious way. Besides, it also wishes to capture the interest and attention of young people”, outlines David Ibáñez Gil de Ramales, member of FEVADIC.

This science dissemination event will also include an exhibition of scientific illustration, which will include comics, computer graphics, humorous cartoons and animations. It will put a voice and a face to five big people of scientific illustration.

The organisation of Ogmios has been possible because of FEVADIC and it has also joined forces with the City of Arts and Sciences, the CEFIRE-CTM, the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) of the Universitat de València and the CSIC, S2 Grupo, the Polytechnic University of València, Mensa España and Scenio.
