Fòrum de Debats of the Universitat celebrates the 110th anniversary of Salvador Allende’s birth

On 18 and 19 June, the Fòrum de Debats of the Universitat de València celebrates the 110th anniversary of Salvador Allende’s birth with the campaign “Un busto para Salvador Allende en Valencia”.

On Monday 18, the writer and coordinator of the Fòrum de Debats, Alfons Cervera, will present Óscar Soto Guzman’s book “Allende en el recuerdo” (Sílex Editions). It will count with the intervention of Viviana Bahamondes, a member of the organising commission that homages Allende; Vicent Garcés, Salvador Allende’s advisor in the Unidad Popular Government; and Óscar Soto Guzmán, his personal doctor. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Cultural Centre La Nau.

On Tuesday 19, the Chilean pianist Simón Eckhardt will offer a concert at 7 p.m. in La Sapiencia Chapel of La Nau. Admission will be free until full capacity. These two events close the programme of the Fòrum de Debats of this year.

Salvador Allende (Valparaíso, 1908- Santiago de Chile, 1973) was the president of Chile since 1970 until the Coup of State led by the general Augusto Pinochet on the 11 of September 1973. He died in the La Moneda Palace when it was bombed by the participants in the coup d’état.  This Coup d’état was followed by a 17-year-old dictatorship characterized by the constant violation of Human Rights.
