Francisco Javier Chorro Gascó is the new dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Universitat de València. Chorro was the only candidate. He substitutes Federico Pallardó, who had assumed the Office for the last 6 years.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Universitat de València. He became doctor and is the Head of Service of Cardiology at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia. He is a Medicine professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Valencia.

He was educated in Cardiology at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia. He carried out his research training at the Universitat de València and the Biomedisch Centrum (Transnational University Limburg, Maastricht, the Netherlands).

He is responsible of the Experimental Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory, the Cardiology Service of the Hospital Clínico of Valencia and the Experimental Cardiac Electrophysiology work group integrated in the new National Consortium CIBER for cardiovascular diseases (CIBERCV). He has edited 10 books and is author or co-author of 62 chapters of a book and 317 indexed magazine articles.

Chorro has participated in 31 competitive research projects, 15 of which as the main researcher. He is responsible of the thematic networks group REDINSCOR and RIC. He has been the main researcher in 12 projects funded by scientific societies, and a contributor in 9 other projects. He has 30 years of research background and 36 of teaching experience. He is the main responsible of the multidisciplinary work group integrated in the project PROMETEO of the Valencian Government to study the initiation, perpetuation and ceasing mechanisms in cardiac arrhythmia, particularly the fibrillation processes.

Additionally, he was the president of the Valencian Society of Cardiology (1995-1997), the president of the Valencian Heart Institute (INSVACOR) (1998-2005), Vice-president of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (2007-2009), head of the Medicine department at the Universitat de València (2011-2018), fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and full member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Valencia.
