The Governing Council calls elections for the office of the principal of the Universitat de València

As established in the Statutes of the Universitat de València, once the university Senate has been completely renewed, the Governing Council has called elections for the office of the principal of the Universitat de València. The Electoral Commission will approve the calendar for these elections, which will be by universal suffrage.

The article 90 of the Statutes of the Universitat de València gives the Governing Council the power to call elections for the principal of the Universitat de València once the Senate has been totally renewed, as stipulated in the article 97 of our Statutes.

Meeting in ordinary session this Monday, 13th of December, the Governing Council has agreed to call elections for the office of the principal of the Universitat de València.

This begins a procedure regulated by the General Electoral Regulations of the Universitat de València and coordinated by the Electoral Commission, the body that will approve the calendar for these elections.

 

The whole university community, called to vote on the 1st March 2022

The Governing Council has called the elections for the office of the principal for the 1st March 2022, in accordance with the provisions of the Statutes of the Universitat de València.

That day, more than 57,000 members of the university community are called to the polls in a process of universal suffrage with weighted voting by sectors. Specifically, more than 49,000 students of degree, master's degree and doctorate, more than 4,400 members of the Teaching and Research Staff, more than 2,000 members of the Administration and Services Staff and more than 1,300 researchers will be able to exercise their right to vote in the elections for the office of the principal of the oldest Valencian university.

In accordance with the article 96 of the Statutes of the Universitat de València, those who can take part in the office of the principal are active full professors of the Universitat de València.

The elections will open a new period of four years leading the office of the principal, exercising the responsibility to represent and run the management of the Universitat de València, as established in the Statutes of the Universitat de València. These limit the practise of the principal to two terms: four years and the possibility of a consecutive reelection for another four years.

The Electoral Commission will approve the electoral calendar, establishing the deadlines for publishing the electoral rolls, presenting candidacies and holding the electoral campaign.
