The Universitat de València celebrated yesterday 20 September the International Day of University Sport (IDUS). Half a thousand of students and workers participated in more of 60 activities organised which took place in the three campuses and external facilities, like beach surf in the Malvarrosa and sailing in Marina Real.

It was organised by the Physical Education and Sports Service (SEFUV) and it turned out a big participation and welcome success. The objective of the announcement of an International Day of University Sport is to guarantee and preserve, for students and citizens, the activities and sports programmes in higher education institutions, in order to promote physical education and its vital contributions to health lifestyles, non discrimination, gender equality, social inclusion, integrity and a socially responsible citizenship.

Participants enjoyed a quiet journey ─morning and evening─ in which physical activities led. At 8, the IDUS started in the Burjassot-Paterna Campus with a first session of muscle-building. Throughout the day and in different facilities of the campus activities like shiatsu, yoga, capoeira, zumba, tai-chi, pilates, oriental dance, salsa-bachata or spinning were developed.

At 10 the day began at the Tarongers Campus, where the participants relaxed with techniques of kinomichi; they danced flamenco and contemporary dance; played tennis, paddle, volleyball... practiced archery, female personal defence, Pilates and beach volleyball, among many other activities.

The last one was the Blasco Ibañez Campus. At 11 am, the exercise began with the practice of abs without risk. Oriental dance, basketball, rugby, maintenance, African dance, indoor football, handball or hip hop and some of the proposed activities throughout the day. It was the facilities of this campus that also welcomed sport adapted with activities, such as tetrasport (adapted physical activity) and table tennis inclusive.

All activities, open to the university community and to Valencian society, were a small sample of the offer of activities and sports schools organized by the Physical Education and Sports Service de la Universitat de València.

According to SEFUV director José Campos, the balance of the day is "very positive", given the influx of people who participated in all the modalities offered in the three campuses: "We have achieved the objective of the International Day of University Sports, which is to promote sports, not only among students, but also among society”.
