Brieva, illustrator, writer and musician -as he defines himself-, he will try to offer the keys to “release our imagination and figure out this way future alternatives” before the “dominant story tales of the moment” which sum up in three fundamental ideas or “fanatic myths”: the conviction of “perpetual growth” linked to the Illustration process, a concept that currently has come of as “perverted”; the capitalist system as a “natural estate of the human being” and that Brieva qualifies as “false”; and the Hobbesian idea that “the man is a wolf to the man”, that “even though it isn’t real, has ended being part of a myth in the current society”.
For Miguel Brieva, it is about three “false” concepts and related as social beings starting at these beliefs ends up building a “destructive reality”.
Her reflections invite the hearer to “develop a conscience of what we are” starting at “mutual support” which would achieve to begin “the transition to a new world view”. “In few decades we could achieve a better world” We human beings get carried away by shared narratives, so we only need to change the story tale”, he says.
In this sense, he proposes “to decrease on a planned way and reconsider our relationship with technology, prioritise human dignity and the protection of life in all its forms, and increase a collective sense that inspires hope and action before the present challenges”.
Here, in their opinion, it is “crucial” the roll played by the cultural and creative sectors “as for natural generators of new imaginaries, capable of articulating different visions”.
So Brieva will share his oral discourse with the story tale, created by himself and produced with strips of humour, illustrations and comic. An art opposed to the “inefficiency of the critic and present satires” and opens the path to a hopeful horizon.
After Brieva’s intervention, there will be space for debate between the illustrator and the public, moderated by the responsible of Cultural Observatory UV, Raúl Abeledo.
Miguel Brieva’s conference will take place in the Aula Magna historic building from the Universitat de València, this Thursday, 15th (6pm), with the support of the Valencia City Counciland Caixa Popular, to assist you only need to sign up for free in the Observatory website: www.uv.es/observatoricultural
