Individual sports retake the competitions

Individual sports of the Universitat de València retake this week the internal competitions of classification for the University Sport Regional Championship (CADU). Furthermore, the frontenis team will play this Monday 13 at the Pavelló Universitari at 17:30, the qualifying round to dispute the University International Championship Zabalki 2017 the next 23 March in Pamplona.

Orienteering, badminton and sailing. These are the three individual sports disciplines which will select the best athletes to face the Valencian universities at CADU.

The internal coaching will develop this morning, day 11, in a circuit prolonged between Valencia and Paterna. According to the head coach, Niclas Gil, the team will compete around thirty athletes in masculine and femenine category. “They will make around four kilometres on the route that, this year, will be even more difficult”, he says. The sporting event of this Saturday is “decisive” to select the students who will compete at the autonomic.

On Tuesday 14, boys and girls of Iván Gallardo will challenge at the third badminton sporting event, classifying the athletes for the CADU who will play on 1 March at Universitat Jaume I of Castellón. 20 athletes will play at the Pavelló Universitari, at 18:30, individual masculine and feminine, competing also in all autonomic categories: besides individuals, double masculine and feminine matches and mixed. Gallardo has confirmed that he expects to “gain medals in all categories and repeat the thirds in pairs”. He has also confirmed that two banners of the Universitat will return to autonomic and national championships David Siles and Bárbara Salinas, bronze winners of mixed matches at the last year Championship of Spain.

On his part, the sailing team of the Universitat will celebrate the second day of internal competition the next Wednesday 15 at the Marina Real Juan Carlos I, at the facilities of Sailing Federation of the Autonomous Community of Valencia, at 15:00. In this case, no athlete stakes the spot on the selection, waiting the third and last sporting event on 1 March in which the best team who will compete at CADU will be determined. It will be a mixed, masculine, feminine team, with a high competition level, because, according to the couch Juan Calvo, “we expect to keep on the Top 3, both the autonomic and Spain match, as the last year”.

Zabalki Tournament 
Cristina Ortiz, frontenis team couch, will lead the bests to Pamplona on 23 March to compete at the University International Championship Zabalki. Now, they are staking the qualifying rounds, planned to be concurred over 10 pairs, masculine and feminine category. The day of this Monday will be dedicated to its selection, although the competition may develop during two days, so athletes of the Universitat would meet again the next Thursday 16.

The last Zabalki, Ortiz’s masculine pair gained the championship, while girls returned home in the second position. This year, the couch goes to all out: “We will go with maxim level athletes and we will be champs in the two categories”, she claims.
