Today the act of formalisation of the land transfer was held where the future facilities of the National Dosimetry Centre (CND) will be built. The CND is managed by the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA), a body under the Ministry of Health. The land where the new CND will be built is located in the Science Park of the Universitat de València, in the town of Paterna (Valencia).

The event was attended by the Director of INGESA, Belén Hernando Galán; the Principal of the Universitat de València, Mavi Mestre; the General Deputy Director for Asset Management of the General Treasury of the Social Security, María Nieves Fernández, and the Managing Director of the CND, Carlos Rodríguez-Flores.

For Hernando Galán, this act of formalisation signifies the starting signal for a project that INGESA has been longing for: "The important work carried out by the CND in our health system will be reflected in the building that will be born from this agreement. It is further proof of the Spanish Government's firm commitment to placing our country at the forefront of healthcare technology".

The Principal wanted to stress the importance of this project. "It is a project that highlights the synergies between the two public administrations," she said. She also wanted to recall that "projects like this, in which educational institutions work side by side with ministries such as the Ministry of Health, contribute to strengthening one of the basic pillars of our welfare state, whose importance has been demonstrated by the necessary emergency response to the COVID-19". In the coming days, the right of ownership will be registered in the Registry, after which the INGESA will begin drafting the construction project, prior to the construction phase of the building, which will involve a total investment of 3.5 million euros.

Since its creation in 1977, the CND has been located on the grounds of the former La Fe Hospital in Valencia. Its current facilities are distributed in two warehouses, with a total surface area of 1,000 m2. The new facilities will have a total surface area of approximately 3,500 m2, distributed over five floors, two of which are basements. These floors will have advanced facilities with state-of-the-art technology for the calibration of measuring equipment. The upper floors will house the Radiological Protection and Teaching Technical Unit, the Personal Dosimetry Service, which provides services to more than 40,000 exposed workers in the National Health System (NHS), as well as research, technical and administrative staff.
