This Wednesday, 15 February, Joan Mas i Vives, from the University of the Balearic Islands, takes part in the commemorative acts of the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Department of Catalan. Mas i Vives will talk about ‘L’eclosió del teatre contemporani: la vida escènica a València, Barcelona i Palma durant les dècades centrals del segle XIX’.

The conference will start at 18h in the room Manuel Sanchis Guarner of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication. Professor Ferran Carbó will introduce the lecturer. There will be also a speech pronounced by Gonçal López Pampló, from the publisher Editorial Bromera. And a performance of the singer-songwriters Feliu Ventura and Xavier Sarrià will take place at 19.45h.

The department was created by Manuel Sanchis Guarner in 1976. Up to this time, Sanchis Guarner, the first full university professor of Catalan Linguistics, promoted some Catalan extracurricular courses. And before that, there were seminars and other initiatives that Franco’s dictatorship abolished.
