Joan Oleza will be conferred a Honorary Degree by the National University of La Plata (Argentina)

The National University of La Plata (Argentina) is conferring the title of Honorary Degree to Joan Oleaza, emeritus professor of the Universitat de València, on Wednesday. Oleaza is the principal researcher of the Prometheus project, entitled “Max Aub and the Confrontations of Historical Memory.”

The event is held within the framework of the IV International Congress of Contemporary Spanish Literature and Culture: Other transatlantic dialogues: to and from Spain. 90 years after the Generation of 27.

The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of the National University of la Plata highlights "the activism against the Franco dictatorship that accompanied the beginning of the academic career of Professor Joan Oleza (1969-1972)." It also emphasises his achievement as professor of Spanish literature at the Universitat de València between 1979 and 2016, and as emeritus professor currently.

Likewise, his commitment to democratic normalization during the post-dictatorship and the intense work of university management as director of the Department (1979-1980 and 1985-1990), secretary of the Faculty of Philology, vice-dean (1978-1981) and dean (1982-1985).

The National Univesity of La Plata value equally scientific background, “the production in the field of the Spanish literatura that combine a high degree of specialization with the interdisciplinary crosses that insert literature in major historical and cultural processes as backbone”, and his contribution to international hispanism from various areas: classical Spanish theatre and scenic practices, the narratives of the nineteenth and twentieth century, the Spanish exile of 1939, the narrative of political transition and the cultural turn in the era of communication.
