The players of the Universitat de València football team took the cup that gave them the title of Spanish university champions and the pass to the European University Championships of Serbia in 2020. The CEU was held last Friday in the facilities of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón. On the other hand, the judo and weightlifting teams of the Universitat de València competed last weekend in their respective Spanish university championships. In both competitions, the sportsmen and sportswomen of the Universitat climbed to the top of the podium.
Gold medal for the women's football team
"The girls have gone from less to more," said their coach Jose A. Menchero, who underlined the hardness of the group. "We had a tough group, especially with Huelva who was a strong opponent," said Menchero.
The women's team of the Universitat de València fought for the gold medal in a final against the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, despite starting the first half with an adverse score. "We focused our efforts on making a good final and getting the title and it wasn't easy," added the coach.
Just two minutes into the match, the Madrid team scored their first goal, a score that was maintained until shortly before the end of the first half. The UPM scored their second goal in the 43rd minute, but the UV players didn't go to half-time with a clean sheet, as they scored a penalty in the 44th minute.
Turn over to the scoreboard
A few minutes from the beginning of the second half, the UV team tied the match, until finally the Valencians went ahead on the scoreboard closing the match with 4 goals against the two of the UPM. "I think it was one of the best finals of the Spanish championship we have played," said Menchero and added: "The girls have overcome any adversity.
A national university final that closed with a total of six goals and the constant pressure that kept the UV players until the conclusion of the game. The title of champions of Spain gives them the step to the European University Championship of Serbia in 2020.
Spanish University Championships of Judo
The UV judo team won the trophy of Spanish university champion, beating the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, second and third respectively. The competition took place in the Sports Pavilion of the Universitat Politècnica de València.
In the women's individual, the UV judokas added two gold metals and two bronze. The gold medal went to Carla Montañez in -66kg and to Nina Estefanía Esteo in -52kg. The bronze was won by María Ruiz in -57 and Maitane Herrero in -63kg.
As for the male classification, the judokas accumulated four gold medals: Oier Goikoetxea in -66kg, Javier Ramos in -73kg, Igor Zapirain in -81kg and Marc Sabater won in -90kg,
Spanish University Championships of weight-lifting
This year the selection of the UV managed to proclaim itself winner of the CEU (Spanish University Championships), thanks to the gold medal of Ana Belén Delgado in 49kg and the silver that went to hands of Lucía García in 87kg, championship that took place in the University of Murcia.
