The musical groups of the Universitat de València have prepared a very intense musical programme for Christmas in different cities and university spaces. A total of ten concerts, with the outstanding performance of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the women's choir A cau d'orella, as well as other choral groups took place at the Palau de la Música of Valencia, last Sunday, 17 December.

The participants of the concert were the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València, the choir of women A cau d'orella and four children's choirs: La Nau Choir School of the Universitat de València, the Choir School of l'Eliana, the UM Choir School of Almansa and the Schola Cantorum of Aldaia; all under the direction of Hilari Garcia Gázquez.

Universitat de València Philharmonic Orchestra designed a special concert for this season at the Palau de la Música. As explained by its director, Hilari Garcia, "we have designed a programme with a first part of festive character, Christmas and funny, with Central European dances and works that the public will identify straight away, so that their involvement will be immediate." The Orchestra recalled the famous the Nutcracker Russian dance, the Hungarian Dances of Brahms, the Slavic Dances of Dvorák and the Polovtsian Dances of Prince Igor composed by Borodin. In short, a popular music aimed at adults and children.

After the break, the Orchestra returned to “the Mediterranean.” Composed of two works, the second part started with the Suite Nadalenca by Albert Guinovart. "The Christmas carols are always present in this concert," said the director. And the show closed with the absolute premiere of the work El ninot de neu, composed by Amparo Edo, current deputy director of the Composition Department of the Berklee College of Music in Boston and former member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University. "We are very excited about this premiere, although it is not a Christmas theme work, it is winter and fits perfectly in the programme," said Hilari Garcia, who advanced "some surprises" during the show.

The scene of the Palau had about 200 interpreters in this concert that brought together several groups and that this year celebrated the fifth edition.

In addition to this concert, different university musical groups offer several concerts in other cities and university spaces in Christmas.
