This WebinarsLANAU new edition is a programme of online seminars organised by the Cultural Observatory of the University of Valencia. Áurea Ortiz addressed women’s situation in the audio-visual sector and the important changes taking place both in the industry and in terms of representation. The image of women in series and films has significantly changed in recent years, especially in the field of series, although less so in commercial cinema. The push for feminism and the increase in offer due to the growth of platforms has allowed for more and more diverse female protagonists, but there is still some way to go: the percentage of women involved in producing, directing or screenwriting remains low.

Áurea Ortiz Villeta is a film historian, member of the Valencian Film Library and lecturer in History of Art at the University of Valencia. Her research topics, developed in publications, seminars, exhibitions and conferences include the Spanish film history, the relationship between cinema and art and the representation of women in audio-visual production. She has been a juror and contributor to many film festivals. She currently comments on series in Culturplaza and in the posdast ‘Laboratorio de Investigación de Series' (Podium Podcast).

‘WebinarsLANAU: Converses ciència, evidencia i raó’ is an initiative promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sports and by the General Foundation of the University of Valencia through the Cultural Obseratory. It aims to promote reflection, conversation and debate through free webinars in which the situation of different cultural sectors in the Valencian territory is addressed. The City Council of Valencia and Caixa Popular collaborate in the programme. All the sessions held so far are available on the WebinarsLANAU playlist on the Youtube Channel of La Nau Centre Cultural of the University of Valencia.
