The event, held yesterday at 12 p.m. in the Cloister of La Nau, was attended by the Vice-principal for Culture of the Universitat de València; Ester Alba; Asunción Pérez, Ombudsman for the Elderly of Valencia City Council, and Vicente Cerverón, coordinator of the Science and Technology pathway, one of the itineraries of La Nau Gran programme. Empar Alemany Escrivá, student of the Psychology itinerary, also took part in the diplomas delivery on behalf of the graduating class.

The programme allows elderly people to access as students at the Universitat de València, although without the issuing of an official degree, and to share classrooms and subjects with the rest of the students who are studying the regulated degrees. Thus, La Nau Gran students belong to the real university environment and actively participate in knowledge, culture, research and debate.

The Vice-principal, who has been a teacher and coordinator of the itineraries attached to the Faculty of Geography and History at La Nau Gran, said with emotion that this programme "means enjoying university life not only for the classes, but also for what it means to experience the University as a fundamental institution of democratic society". La Nau Gran is part of the essence of the Universitat, fulfilling its third mission: university extension, bringing culture closer to society beyond teaching and research". Ester Alba assures that her vice-principal's office will continue "firmly" committed to the consolidation of this project, and has advanced that new lines will be opened, such as internationalisation and the continuation of cultural projects and calls for proposals, already underway, such as the 'Activa Cultura Nau Gran' awards.

Vicente Cerverón described the students: "They are very participative, grateful and interested", while Asunción Pérez demanded "a place in the world for the over-65s", who in the city of Valencia number more than 160,000 people out of a population of 800,000.

More than 200 people received this diploma at the event held at La Nau. Diplomas were also awarded to the first graduating class of the Advanced Studies Course in Classical Antiquity Thought and Culture (ANCLA), which began in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The current offer of the programme is made up of nine different training itineraries, each with three compulsory courses. Students can take courses ranging from Science and Technology to Law, Political Science and Criminology, as well as Psychology, History, Society and Territory, History of Art, Health, Philosophy, Language, Literature and Communication; in addition to the Advanced Studies in Classical Antiquity Thought and Culture (ANCLA) and the Advanced Studies in Psychology in Adulthood, which last two years.

The event concluded with the choir of La Nau Gran performing Gaudeamus Igitur.
