This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Illustration Conferences of Valencia (JIV), held on May 6th, 7th and 8th at the La Nau Cultural Centre of the Universitat de València, thanks to the Universitat’s Comic Society and the Chair of Comic Studies. Furthermore, this edition joins Valencia as the World Design Capital with a schedule where illustration and design go hand-in-hand.

More than 80 illustrators will be drawing live during a weekend full of activities, music and lots of creativity on La Nau’s cloister. The core of the schedule will be an illustration market where artists will be creating in situ. Participants include: Jaume Mora, Miguel Monkc, RKPK, Elisa Talens and Colors al Vent.

Interviews to the artists, talks, music and some other surprises will be taking place at the centre of the cloister, in the Sailor space. The Conferences are also a place to learn, and not only for artists. The College of Art and Design of Valencia (EASD), Tapinearte and some of our artists will be offering workshops linked to illustration and design for all audiences.

The Conferences will start on Friday, March 6th at 5 PM with Dr. Mackandall’s talk about a photocall and a presentation by members of the JIV 05; María Lapiedra, Head of communication of the WDC-Valencia (World Design Capital Valencia 2022); Javier Mestre, Deputy Director of the EASD-València; Mai Hidalgo and Empar Piera, JIV coordinators, and Jesús Rodriguez from the foundation Juntos por la vida.

On Saturday evening, the solidary action in support of the foundation Juntos por la vida in its Emergency Campaign in Ukraine will take place. Artists Xëlon, Daniella Martí, Azucena González and Inma Carpena will talk about the furniture donated by the Valencian companies Gandía Blasco and Actiu. These pieces of furniture or design objects will be available to buy in support of the Emergency Campaign in Ukraine at the end of the evening and through JIV’s social media.

Music will also be there with DJs like Xino DJ and Guerrilla Xhen, and the singer Elia Casanova will present on Sunday her illustrated album, Elvas, as a closure to the Conferences.
