The event, which is part of the series 'Les raons d'Europa' (Europe's reasons), is organised by the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport, and the Centre of European Documentation of the General Foundation of the Universitat de València. At the Conference, in which Jean Monnet Actions of the European Commission (CE) will also collaborate, Sales will try to tackle how, in a multicultural society like ours, which has an increasingly invasive supranational framework of the domestic legal system, understanding the legal transformations that belonging to the CE has implied in matters of private law in general and family law in particular is the only way to understand the world that surrounds us. 

In 'Family law today: Europe, what have you done to us?', Sales will talk about how family law is one of the cornerstone of every society. It represents the perfect intersection between the globalisation that we are experiencing and the maintenance of the legal tradition, rooted to the civil codes of half Europe. 

Sales, lecturer of Private International Law at the University of Castilla-La Mancha since 2007, studied at the Universitat Jaume I, where she was also professor and where she carried out her doctoral thesis in 2002. Likewise, she is the author of 40 publications, among which we can find books, book chapters and articles in journals specialised in several topics that helped her to centre her research work. In this sense, and although her initial line of research was the international maritime and air transport, for some years now she has been working essentially on two subjects: the relationships between human rights and multinational companies and international family law. Each of them is supported by several publications, seminars and national and European research projects. 

Apart from teaching in different official masters' degree, she gives lectures on issues of private international law (foreign affairs, international child abduction...), she has been in charge of several research projects and participates actively in a number of work groups devoted to modern slavery, within the International Labour Organization. 

With regard to family law regulation at the international level, Sales has approached this study from different perspectives, both by giving lectures or courses to state security forces, especially focused on international child abduction y and mediation in case of abduction, and by publishing about subjects related to international law in this field: adoption of minors by same-sex couples, cross-border child protection, assisted reproduction and filiation, and surrogate pregnancy, a subject on which all the above issues have recently become intertwined.

The Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives is a cultural project launched by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport and managed by the General Foundation of the Universitat de València. It is a space for reflection and participatory and critical debate on current issues. The Escola also counts on the participation of other actors from the public administration and civil society: the Prime Minister's office of the Valencian government; the Valencia City Council; the Departments of Transparency, and Education, Research, Culture and Sport; the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua; the Institució Alfons el Magnànim and Caixa Popular.
