Today, Monday 7th October, at 7 p.m., at Aula Magna of La Nau Cultural Centre the book Ciudadanía y etnicidad en Bosnia y Herzegovina by Esma Kučukalić will be presented. With the participation of Ricard Pérez Casado, Doctor in History and European Union administrator in 1996 for the city of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina); Carlos Flores Juberías, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Universitat de València; Albert Moncusí Ferré, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universitat de València, and Esma Kučukalić, authoress of the book.

The issue addressed in the book is among the most complex that Europe has faced in recent decades.  The peace signed in Dayton in 1995 has not yet succeeded in turning Bosnia and Herzegovina into a functional, inclusive, effective and unequivocally democratic state.  Bosnian problem keeps on going, not as bloody as in other more or less recent periods in our history, but in any case without a solution, in the understanding of which this study focuses.  There is no future for Bosnia and Herzegovina without an effective integration into the European Union.  And there is no place for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Europe if the country does not abandon the current constitutional structure and move towards the building of a State for all citizens.

Esma Kučukalić Ibrahimović (Sarajevo, 1983) holds a Degree in Journalism and a Doctorate in Law by the Universitat de València. She holds a Masters Degree in International and European Studies. She had carried out several investigations related to ethnicity and its consequences on the political model arising from the Dayton Peace Agreement for Bosnia and Herzegovina, form where she arrived in Valencia as a war refugee.  She is responsible for communication at the Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly Foundation and is a regular journalist for Valencia and the Revista Plaza.

The activity is part of the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives. The Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives is a cultural project, promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport with the management of the General Foundation of the Universitat de València, is a space for introspection and participative and critical debate on current affairs.  The Escola has the participation of other actors of the public administration and the civil society: Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana, Conselleria de Transparència i d’Educació, Investigació, Cultura i Esport, Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, Institut Alfons el Magnànim, Escola Europea d’Humanitats and Caixa Popular.
