La Nau hosts the launching of a comic on climate change with works by big names in Spanish illustration

On Tuesday 3rd December at 7 p.m., the comic Puro Perú was presented at La Nau Cultural Centre of the Universitat de València. It is a graphic album about the environmental situation on our planet that seeks to increase knowledge and raise awareness about climate change. The result of an initiative by the NGO CESAL and with artistic direction from MacDiego, Puro Perú shows the work of some of the best cartoonists and scriptwriters in our country, also under the signature of Sento Llobell on the cover. Entrance to the Gonzalo Montiel Hall, where the event was held, was free until full capacity.
Álvaro Pons, director of the Aula del Còmic at the Universitat de València; Cristina Lippi Ibáñez de Aldecosa, head of the NGOD Monitoring Area at the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation; David Bravo, CESAL's director of Strategy and Innovation, took part in the event; MacDiego, Art Director of Puro Perú; Pam López and Paco Roca, famous cartoonists who have participated in this project, and Maite Ibáñez, Delegate Councillor for Education, Cultural Action, Youth, Development Cooperation and Migrations of Valencia City Council.
In Puro Perú eleven cartoonists and scriptwriters tell us through diverse stories about climate change and its consequences for our planet, with Peru, the third country most vulnerable to the climate emergency we currently live in, as the main character. The result is eight independent chapters that bring us closer to the Latin American country in a very personal way, through a journey full of traditions and ancestral knowledge. The album also includes an introduction by journalist Roberto Brasero, weather forecaster in Antena3, followed by eight chapters signed by authors of the stature of Paco Roca (National Comic Award), Ana Miralles and Emilio Ruiz, Pam López and Francisco Sánchez, Teresa Valero, Juan Carlos San Román "Calo", Javier de Isusi along with Alex Orbe, Nuria Tamarit and Rubén Jiménez “el Rubencio”, with the cover by Sento Llobell,
This very genuine project has been promoted by the NGO CESAL, which has been working for more than 30 years in development cooperation in rural areas and marginal urban areas of large cities located in developing countries. Together with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), CESAL has been working since 2014 on a major programme to strengthen environmental governance and citizen participation for adaptation to climate change in the Ucayali jungle and the Apurimac mountain range, located in Peru. All of this falls within the framework of support for Sustainable Development Goal 13, “Action for Climate”, of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.
