The work is a collective research project conducted by the Group of Studies of the Literary Exile (GEXEL), attached to the Departament of Spanish Studies of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

This dictionary includes the all the writers of the Spanish Republic who wrote in Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque. Apart from the writers of the republican exile, it includes the publishers and magazines because they represent the draft of the future’s literature and they are fundamental to put the writers in its literary, social, ideological and political context. The dictionary aims to be a reference work, the atlas of the different maps of the Republican Exile of 1939 with the purpose of encouraging the public as well as future researchers, especially the younger ones.
