The Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València will host tomorrow Saturday, 11 November, at 12 noon, the thirty-sixth edition of the Valencian Literary Criticism awards ceremony, organized by the Valencian Association of Writers and Literary Critics, with the sponsorship of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the General Directorate of Culture of the Valencian Government.

The meeting and the verdict of the different members of the jury comprising relevant critics in active, representatives of cultural institutions and university teachers of the Region of Valencia, was held at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche, on 20 May. A total of four works were awarded: dramatic literature, narrative, essay and criticism and poetry.

In the modality of essay and criticism, the award was for the professors of the Universitat de València Antonio Ariño and Joan Romero for the work entitled “La secesión de los ricos” published by the Galaxia Gutemberg publisher in 2016.

The jury has considered that this work deserves the prize for its considerations about a central topic in our era, as in the case of the increasing economic disparity and its global consequences, providing with interesting elements for a debate.

In the modality of dramatic literature has been distinguished “Alimento para mastines”, Javier Sahuquillo, edited by the SGAE Foundation, for a great literary load in its composition, as well as for the emotional intensity that the characters and the subject have.

In narrative, ''De este pan y de esta guerra”, by Jesús Zomeño, published in the Contrabando publishing house. The book is made up of eighteen stories that take place in different European cities in the context of the First World War.  They reflect human nature through feelings and passions in force at any time, narrated with exceptional talent

Finally, in poetry, the Valencian Literary Criticism Awards have presented an award ex aequo to the works “Corteza de abedul” (Tusquets) and “Tú me mueves” (Pre-texts), Antonio Cabrera and Agustín Pérez Loyal, respectively. “Corteza de abedul” part of the integration of the everyday environment, sheds closeness to reality and maintains a high degree of intensity in all poems. “Tú me mueves”, on the other hand, is a book of contemplation and celebration, but also of amazement before nature, art and transcendence.

The aim of the Valencian Literary Criticism Awards is to help the dissemination of the Valencian author's book. They are awarded the year following the publication of the book. As in the rest of the national critic awards, they have no financial endowment. The winners are distinguished with a Javier Morales sculpture.
