La Nau, venue for the book festival SINDOKMA

SINDOKMA Book Fair – organised by MAKMA, Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport, Acción Cultural Contemporánea (APACC) (Professionals for the Contemporary Cultural Action Association) and the Valencian Ministry Department of Education, Research, Culture and Sport – celebrates this year its fourth edition and will be set in La Nau, from October 24th to 27th. This festival has become in a reference meeting for the book sector, with the presence of independent publishing houses, contemporary edition brands and artirs’s book of national and international writers. The opening will be on Thursday 24th, at 7:30 p.m. at Aula Magna.

The creative picture of this edition has been made by Ana R. Leiva (València, 1969), as guest artist. In this line, the festival tries to keep supporting the word and the artistic talent located and solidified in the Valencian Community. Just as the latest edition in 2018 made, which have as guest artist Fernando García del Real, designer and artist.

45 exhibitors

SINDOKMA Book Fair will have the participation of 45 exhibitors from the Valencian Community and from cities such as Madrid, Bilbao, Cuenca, Albacete, Gijón, Oviedo or Toledo, just as Italian and Slovene brands, through two sections: Specific and Heterodoz and VABOOK. The first group gathers independent publishing houses and will have the presence of Aurora Dorada Ediciones, Barlin Libros, Canibaal, Concreta Contrabando, Colección Científicos, DXI Publications, Editorial Pez de Plata, El Doctor Sax, Ediciones Intrépidas, El Nadir, Huso Editorial, JPM, Es Pop, Huerga y Fierro, Lastura Ediciones, MAKMA Ediciones, Malinc, Reediciones Anómalas, Trama y Fondo, Vaso Roto y Versos y Trazos.

On the other section, VABOOK, that meets contemporary edition brands and Artist’s book, Ángel Cajal, Arze&De la Cage,  Endika Basaguren, Francesca Ricci, Iván Araujo y Vicotoria Santesmases; al igual que sellos, colectivos, museos e instituciones como la EASD y la UPV, Edición Ilimitada, Edit&Co., El Caballero de la Blanca Luna, El Museo del Ruso de Alarcón, Doce Islas, Falla Corona, Handshake, Tapas Duras, Lumen, Lalata, Papel Engomado, Per(r)ucho y el Sporting Club de les Lletres take part in.

25 activities

SINDOKMA will have a large programme of presentations, round tables, activities and children’s workshop that will be held in the Claustro and Aula Magna. The festival’s timeline starts on Thursday October 24th at 7:30 p.m. at Aula Magna with the meeting of scriptwriters, writers and film-makers: Rafael Calatayud Cano and Rafael Maluenda, who will think about El narrador y sus sendas: literature y cine.

SINDOKMA will present 25 proposals that moves from Política de adquisiciones de la Biblioteca Valenciana Nicolau Primitiu – with the presence of Eva Ferriols, head of service-; the project Biblioteca en paral∙lel of Engomado Editoras; the non-profit  initiative VALENCIA LEE; or the #DesayunosMAKMA (MAKMAbreakfast) about Libros que se escuchan, with the presence of Alberto Haller editor, which publishing house Barlin Libros has been recently awarded by the Valencian Government for the Best Edited Book in 2018 (Electroshock. Edició Integral) –the publication will be reflected at the festival-.

Also, on Saturday October 26th at 8:15 p.m., the Asturian film director Ramón Lluís Bande will present his book Cuaderno de la Revolución (Editorial Pez de Plata), an approach and adaptation of his recent film Cantares de la Revolución – awarded musical documentary about the Revolution in Asturias in 1934, where Nacho Vegas is the leading role.

MiniSINDOKMA

The activities programme  is fulfilled with the miniSINDOKMA section, where at the weekend the paint academy Pinta València will carry out the workshop Dibujos y Letras, the same as on Sunday 27th at 12:00, the Slovene writer and editor Barbara Pregelj who will performance a storyteller El anillo mágico (Editorial Malinc), of Peter Sventina.

Llibres objecte eines d’art exhibition

The Associacó Nous Comportaments Artistics (ANCA) (New Artistic Behaviour Association) will expose at the cloister and the ambulatory of La Nau Llibres objectes eines d’art, a show of original pieces of sculpture character, organised by the artist Francesc González, where the book becomes in the main character from different views.
