Last Wednesday, the Universitat de València closed the ‘Campeonato Autonómico de Deporte Universitario (CADU)’ with a total of 52 medals in swimming, table tennis and Valencian ball.

The swimming, table tennis and Valencian handball selections of the Universitat de València played on Wednesday the autonomic university championship winning 30 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 7 bronze medals.

The swimming selection, autonomic champion

El CADU of swimming had place in the University CEU Cardenal Herrera (CEU-UCH) where the selection of the UV was the autonomic winner, winning every race except one. Overall, they won 22 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.  The athletes of the selection are now in the middle of the season and some of them are training for the Spanish Cup. The athletes that compete at a national level improved their time, according to their selector Paola Pastor.

Now, all eyes are set on the CEU which will have place in Castellón in April, after being in the podium for the last two years.

Table tennis, 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal

In the autonomic championship of table tennis which took place in the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV), the selection of the UV lead by their selector, Chema Grau, also achieved to be in the highest part of the podium, winning the gold medal by teams. In the men’s single final, Javi Rodilla won the gold medal and in women’s teams María Pilar won the gold medal, who got to the podium along with Carla Hernández, who won the third place. Their trainer remarks the excellent competition that all of the athletes of the team did, and emphasises on the ones that did not win since ‘they are the ones who really come from the university school’ referring to the player Bianca Descalç who started playing this sport two years ago and Joan Fenollosa, with five years of experience.

Regarding the CEU tennis table that will be celebrated in May, Grau highlights ‘The competition will be very difficult but not impossible’ remembering last year’s results, when María Pilar and Carla Hernández won the third place. ‘We hope to repeat the podium’ says the selector.

La UV wins the gold medal in Valencian ball

And to conclude the competition, in Valencian ball, the UV selection, with Francisco Barceló as a trainer, won the gold medal for teams, in addition to: second place in men for ‘escala i corda’ with the team formed by Pablo, Enric Canet and Alex Alandes; winners in men’s ‘raspall’ with Josep Pla, Raúl Snachís and Ximo Vercher; the male winners in ‘frontón’ were Julio Marrachi and Julio Palau; and the first place in women’s “raspall” were Esther Carlos, Andrea Bosh and Anabel Castelló.
